Chin Yi × Golden Horse 60 Free-Range Egg Gift Box: circular design that turns eggshells into packaging

Chin Yi Eggs × ChiHe Design · The Only Egg Brand Named for Golden Horse 60

Eggshells were waste, thrown away without a second thought.
We turned them into a Golden Horse Awards gift box.

The Concept · WIN THE FUTURE

Golden Horse 60 drew the world's stars to Taiwan.
The only egg brand named for the night answered with circularity.

Built on the Golden Horse 60 spirit of gathering momentum and racing toward the future, ChiHe developed the entire gift box around "WIN THE FUTURE": nine eggs and a single line trace a path to the future across a nine-square grid, while ESG thinking is written into every piece of packaging material.

The Pain

Eggshells are waste nobody thinks twice about discarding.

The egg industry produces vast amounts of eggshells every day, long treated as waste to be thrown away as a matter of course. Gift boxes, meanwhile, chase refinement through foil stamping, spot coating, and multi-layer lamination. They look good, but they are hard to recycle. Refinement and sustainability seemed impossible to have at once.

The Answer

Turn eggshells back into packaging, so resources circulate within the same industry chain.

Chin Yi developed a technology to reuse discarded eggshells, and ChiHe designed the gift box around an eggshell paper tray, remaking what was once written off as waste into packaging material. Printing uses soy ink, with no foil stamping, no spot coating, and no laminated finishes, so the box stays easy to recycle. This time, refinement and sustainability both hold.

Cut waste at the source and keep resources circulating. This is the answer design can give an industry.

Circular by Design

From material to ink, every decision serves the loop.

Sustainability here is not a slogan applied after the fact. From tray formula to printing craft to ease of recycling, circularity is designed in at every step.

Eggshell Paper Tray

Eggshell Pulp Tray

A tray that blends recycled pulp with eggshell powder, returning the egg industry's own waste to use as packaging material that is environmental, circular, and refined, and easy to recycle.

02

Soy Ink

Soy-Based Ink

Printing switches to soy ink, deliberately skipping foil stamping, spot coating, and other laminated finishes, making the whole box easier to recycle and reducing composite materials that are hard to separate.

No Compromise on Craft

Craft Meets Circularity

Eggshell paper, eggshells, and a black outer box weave into a gift box full of intrigue, proof that sustainable packaging can carry a brand at Golden Horse Awards level.

Carbon Proof

The measured carbon saving of eggshell paper trays over conventional recycled paper

The eggshell paper tray is made of recycled pulp and eggshell powder. Assessed on this material mix, each tonne of eggshell paper tray cuts carbon emissions by about 495.9 kg compared with the original recycled paper.

Carbon savings are estimated by ChiHe Design based on the eggshell paper tray's material mix (approximately 85% recycled pulp, 15% eggshell powder); actual results vary with volume and process. ChiHe places particular weight on SDG 12: circulating resources and cutting waste from the source.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals this project advances

From eggshell by-product reuse to material innovation and cross-sector collaboration, this project maps to the following four UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Discarded eggshells reused as packaging material
Circular Story

The journey of an eggshell, from waste back into the industry chain.

  • Recover at the source: the eggshells the egg industry produces every day are converted by Chin Yi's reuse technology into usable raw material instead of being discarded.
  • Remake into packaging: eggshell powder combines with recycled pulp to form the eggshell paper tray, returning to packaging as the core material of the Golden Horse 60 gift box.
  • Easy to recycle: soy ink, no foil stamping, no coating. Fewer composite materials, so the box can be recycled again after use.
  • A closed loop on record: within the same egg industry chain, waste becomes packaging and is recycled again, a real circular case ready to be written into ESG disclosures.
